Experimental AI & Tools

Ghost Shift is our third experiment with AI storytelling and game development. Our goal is to create short but well written stories with interactive components. Keeping the scope small allows us to iterate quickly and focus on quality over quantity.

For this game we developed a better iteration process for creating stories with AI tools. This helps us improve both the overall story structure and prose quality. The story went through over 10 revision passes with both human and AI feedback.

We also experimented with a new visual direction to give the game a nostalgic feel. The cover uses photorealistic box art to create a kind of meta fiction, presenting it like a real lost retro game. That vintage educational game concept also shaped the AI generated music. If this vibe works we may explore it more in future games.

Interesting how you've integrated different AI tools to different aspects of dev!

yep, we've got a whole pipeline here! we hope to do a dev post sometime that explains a little more about how our process and code works.

Pretty neat little story going on!

The images fit really well together; getting them all the same style can be pretty difficult, so good job on that part.

I feel the story has a sorta dark/mystery vibe, and maybe the music could be updated to fit that. Or, have it change based on the scene being shown.

Good job overall

thanks! my goal was to focus on short story and ran through many iterative passes with AI and human rewrites. I also experimented a lot with music and this track really seemed to work for me, setting the old school edutainment vibe. in future games i want to experiment with switching to more dramatic music at key points, just keeping things focused for now.
